St. Michel's Cathedral St. Michel's in the sun Lavra Monastery Cave Monastery City view        Ukraine has very rich history. This land cherished many cultures starting with ancient Tripil culture (7000 -5000 years ago); it was homeland for Cimmerians (Ancient Romans' ancestors), Scythians (the latter overcame Persian tsar Darius). Some territories of contemporary Ukraine during its history were part of different states: Old Russ, Khazarsky Kaganat (in the 7-8th centuries A.D. the ancient state that officially accepted Judaism), Lithuania, Poland (14-17th centuries), tsarist Russia and USSR. So different cultures and peoples influenced the culture of this country where you can still find Old Russ churches, Roman Catholic cathedrals, Tripil culture settlements, Scythian burial hills, Jewish shrines and even masques.
